With one week to go to the start of the 2009 World Cup season, the riders from Cannondale Factory Racing are heading toward the coming races to check their form.
In Nalles, Italy, Roel Paulissen and Marco Aurelio Fontana will race against a strong Italian field while Martin Gujan will face an international peloton in Schaan, Liechtenstein at the kick-off race of the Swiss racing series.
While will not the hardest races of the weekend, they will be the final ones before the big showdown in South Africa. A long winter and several training races will be over and the racers have to be at top form after this weekend. Nalles will be a training race for Marco Aurelio Fontana: “I had a good week of training. We are working hard towards the start in Pietermaritzburg next week, but I do not know how I will feel on Sunday at the race. I will try my very best as usual, but I will do the race under a training aspect.” At his side, Paulissen will use the race in Nalles for training and a form-check as well.
Martin Gujan will be the lone CFR racer in Liechtenstein this weekend. He will have to fight against Ralph Näf and other good Swiss riders at the fast and demanding course in the small state between Switzerland and Austria. “I feel better and better every week. The race in Schaan will show to me how far I am. But I am glad when the World Cup season starts next week. It is time now,” Gujan said during this weeks training.
On Monday, all the Cannondale Factory Racing riders will take the plane to Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. After one week of acclimatization, course checking and training, all of them are looking forward to the big start of the 2009 World Cup season.
