Flashback on 12 years of racing in Mont Ste. Anne, Canada
Check out this short review published by Cannondale Factory Racing on all the races I disputed in Mont Ste. Anne!
(...) Enjoy the history Roel has to tell:
That was the first year for me to go to Canada for a World Cup. It was exciting and fun and a really new experience for me outside of Europe.
We had the World Championships here in Mont Sainte Anne. I caught Cadel Evans 1km to the finish line and got my first medal in a world championship race. It was a great party afterwords… you bet!
There was no Race in Mount Sainte Anne when I remember it right.
No good. I had a really bad day and the race went totally wrong. I had my first DNF (did not finish) in Mount Sainte Anne. That did not feel good at all. I was very disappointed.
One more time big disappointment in Mont Sainte Anne. I was leading the race and everything looked good to win my first World Cup but then my shifter broke and I had to quit the race.
The long Mont Sainte Anne story of bad luck continued. The race was actually good but a flat tire made a good result impossible. I came in on place 7 or 8. I am not sure any more…
This year I came in 6th place. But the better thing was the Party after the race on top of the mountain. We really “reloaded” our bodies with carbohydrates… But one week later I took my first World Cup win in Vancouver.
I was leading the world cup series when we got to Mont Sainte Anne and it was an honour for me to race in the leading jersey. I had a good race and was sprinting for 4th place.
Bad luck again at the mountain… I broke my front wheel and came in on place 7. I am not sure any more. I try to forget those results…
No luck this time… I had bad legs and a flat tire did not make me faster. I finished 14th.
Oh, I do not want to remember this race. I was in 3rd place most of the race and then I had a flat tire right after the tech zone. I had to ride half a lap on the rim till I could change the wheel and got 7th.
I did not start at the World Cup in Mont Sainte Anne. I was in a training camp for the Olympics. (...)
